Trump Poised to Announce Victory in a Surrender of His War on Iran
We begin with Trump’s surrender which he will present as a victory tonight when he addresses the nation to announce he is ending his war on Iran. Already he is blaming NATO for his disastrous war of choice while rewarding Putin who is helping Iran kill Americans in the Gulf. Joining us to discuss how Trump has already made Article 5 of the NATO treaty’s collective defense guarantee meaningless is Jacob Heilbrunn, the Editor of the National Interest, a non-resident senior fellow at The Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center and a columnist for The Spectator. His books include They Knew They Were Right: The Rise of the Neocons and America Last: The Right’s Century-Long Romance with Foreign Dictators. He is also editor-at-large of The Jerusalem Strategic Tribune and we discuss his article at The Spectator, “Trump has already checked out of Nato”
The Origins of Trump’s War on Iran
Then, now that Trump has given up on his pledge to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons, we go back to the origins of Trump’s war on Iran to when he tore up the P5+1 nuclear deal Obama negotiated with Iran signed by all 5 permanent members of the UN plus Germany. Joining us is Joseph Cirincione, Vice Chair of the board for the Center for International Policy and a national security analyst and author with over 35 years of experience working in Washington, D.C. He is the author or editor of seven books, including Nuclear Nightmares: Securing the World before It Is Too Late and Bomb Scare: The History and Future of Nuclear Weapons. He previously served as president of Ploughshares Fund, a global security foundation and director for nonproliferation at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, among other positions. He also worked for over nine years on the professional staff of the Armed Services Committee and the Government Operations Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. He writes the Substack, Strategy and History, and his latest article at The New Republic we discuss is “When Did This War Really Start? When Trump Blew Up Obama’s Iran Deal.”
How Serious is an Executive Order That Has Trump Deciding Who Gets to Vote By Mail?
Then finally we speak with David Daley, the author of Antidemocratic: Inside the right’s 50-year plot to control American elections, as well as the national best-seller Ratf**ked: Why Your Vote Doesn’t Count, which has been credited for kickstarting the national movement to reform redistricting. He is the former Editor-in-Chief of Salon and his journalism has appeared in the New Yorker, the New York Times and the Atlantic, among other publications and we discuss the Executive Order Trump issued yesterday which would have him personally decide who gets to vote by mail.
