A Federal Court Rules That Trump and Hegseth Violated the Posse Comitatus Act and That Trump is Creating a National Police Force With Himself as Its Chief

We begin with today’s ruling by a US District Judge that Trump and Hegseth violated the Posse Comitatus Act in deploying National Guard troops and Marines to Los Angeles and Judge Breyer went on to say in his 52 page ruling that “President Trump and Secretary Hegseth have stated their intention to call National Guard troops into service in other cities across the country… thus creating a national police force with the President as its chief.” Joining us is Sasha Abramsky, The Nation Magazine’s Western Correspondent, and the author of several books, including Inside Obama’s Brain, Breadline USA, American Furies, The American Way of Poverty, and, his latest book is Chaos Comes Calling: The Battle Against the Far-Right Takeover of Small-Town America. Does Xi Jinping Command the World Stage Because of His Diplomatic Skills or Because of Trump’s Blundering Lack of Diplomacy?

Then we look into Xi Jinping’s command of the world stage at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit over the weekend and at Wednesday’s giant military parade where he will share the podium with Putin, Modi, Kim Jong Un and a number of leaders of countries hostile to the United States. Joining us is Orville Schell, who was formerly the dean of the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of California at Berkeley and currently is the Arthur Ross Director of the Asia Society’s Center on U.S.-China Relations. His books include Mandate of Heaven: The Legacy of Tiananmen Square and the Next Generation of China’s Leaders and Wealth and Power: China’s Long March to the Twenty-first Century and most recently My Old Home: A Novel of Exile. We will assess whether Xi’s diplomatic skills are a play or that he is winning because of Trump’s blundering lack of diplomacy.

Then finally we speak with Eric Blanc, a Professor of Labor Studies at Rutgers University, an organizer trainer in the Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee, author of Red State Revolt: The Teachers’ Strike Wave and Working-Class Politics, and director of the Worker to Worker Collaborative. His latest book is We Are the Union: How Worker-to-Worker Organizing Is Revitalizing Labor and Winning Big and we will discuss his article at The Nation, “How Zohran Mamdani Can Win the War: Winning in November isn’t enough.
