Then we discuss Trump’s second coup after January 6 underway and look into into the next Christian nationalist phase of the Trump/Vance corrupt takeover of America’s governing institutions as they and Vought enact Project 2025 to expand their already substantial control of the system of justice, the Congress, our educational institutions, the military and the corporate media in order to control and suppress dissent. Joining us is Katherine Stewart, a journalist and the author of The Good News Club: The Christian Right’s Stealth Assault on America’s Children, The Power Worshippers: Inside the Dangerous Rise of Religious Nationalism upon which the feature documentary God and Country by Rob Reiner is based. What Happens After This Long, Cruel Is Over?
Then, as Trump’s 6 PM EST Sunday deadline for the end of the war in Gaza approaches, we expand on the Israeli writer David Grossman’s cry for the Jewish state, “Who will we be—Israelis and Palestinians—when this long, cruel war comes to an end?” to ask the question: Who will we Americans be, when this long, cruel war comes to an end since we have effectively reduced ourselves into being Israel’s lethal arsenal? Joining us is James Carroll, a Distinguished Writer in Residence at New York University and the author of eleven novels and seven works of nonfiction. A former priest who has been a civil rights worker, an anti war activist, and a community organizer in Washington and New York, Carroll served as Catholic chaplain at Boston University and then left the priesthood to become a writer. He was named Best Columnist by the Catholic Press Association and received the first Thomas Merton Award. His recent books include CHRIST ACTUALLY: The Son of God for the Secular Age and Cloister: A Novel, and we discuss his article at The American Prospect, “Jews, Muslims, and this Long, Cruel War.”
