We Have A Fascist in the White House and the Only Democrat Trying to Stop His Second Coup is Marc Elias

We begin with the frightening reality that the fascist in the White House who has already conducted one coup attempt against American democracy is now entirely focusing his presidency on the Save America Act which is in essence the Save Donald Trump Act to prevent a predictable Democratic victory in November so that Trump and his family won’t be investigated and the occupant of the gilded golden Oval Office will not be dragged out in a straitjacket or an orange jumpsuit. Joining us is Omer Aziz, a writer, lawyer, and former foreign policy advisor to the Canadian Prime Minister. He was born to working-class parents of Pakistani origin in Toronto, Canada, and with the help of scholarships, became the first in his family to go to college in the West, later studying in Paris, at Cambridge University, and Yale Law School. He is the author of Brown Boy and was most recently a Fellow at Harvard’s Radcliffe Institute and we discuss his new book, Shadows of the Republic: The Rebirth of Fascism in America and How to Defeat It for Good.

A Postmortem on the NATO Summit as Europe Falls Apart

Then we do a follow up on the recent NATO summit which Trump arrived at threatening Greenland and insulting European leaders but left talking about the love in the room as European leaders praised and flattered him. Joining us is David Broder, a historian of the Italian far-right. He is a regular contributor to the New Statesman and Internazionale as well as the Europe editor for Jacobin. His books include The Rebirth of Italian Communism: Dissident Communists in Rome, 1943-44, First They Took Rome: How the Populist Right Conquered Italy and, most recently, Mussolini’s Grandchildren Fascism in Contemporary Italy.
