A Supreme Court in an Alternative Universe Gives More Power to the “Orange Bandit”

We begin with today’s decisions handed down by the Supreme Court with more power handed to the most dangerous and lawless president in our history. Joining us to discuss the insanity of giving more power to the “Orange Bandit” who is fleecing the country as he concentrates his efforts on stealing the next election is Aziz Huq, a Professor of Law at the University of Chicago. He is a former clerk for Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and is the co-author of How to Save a Constitutional Democracy out in October with a second edition. His latest book is The Collapse of Constitutional Remedies and his forthcoming book out next year is Into the Dual State and he has an article at Project Syndicate, “The Orange Bandit.”

How to Bridge the Different Understandings the U.S. and Iran Have Over the Future of the Strait of Hormuz

Then we examine the different understandings the U.S. and Iran have in interpreting the MOU over the future of control of and access through the Strait of Hormuz which has led to recent clashes and an expected meeting tomorrow in Doha to ease tensions, but not necessarily resolve the issue. Joining us is Nader Hashemi, the Director of the Alwaleed Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding and an Associate Professor of Middle East and Islamic Politics at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. He is the author of The People Reloaded: The Green Movement and the Struggle for Iran’s Future and Sectarianization: Mapping the New Politics of the Middle East.

A Political Activist Who is Making a Difference

Then finally we speak with a political activist who is making a difference in fighting against the most corrupting and anti-democratic influence on our politics: big money from corporations and billionaires buying our legislators. Joining us is Christy McGillivray, the Executive Director of Voters Not Politicians, a leading nonpartisan, pro-democracy activist organization in Michigan. She has over twenty years of experience across the fields of education and non-partisan political and policy advocacy and her past roles as an advocate include working as the Legislative and Political Director for Sierra Club Michigan; Organizer with the American Federation of Teachers, Michigan; and Campaigns Director and Field Manager for Michigan Clean Water Action.
